So...you know how naive I am from living in California my whole life but I heard something too very long ago that surprised me a lot. Is it true that in the deepest darkest Southernmost parts of Georgia the high schools still hold segregated proms? :>
it just gets worse and worse. What the hell is wrong with people? Just wait until southern states discover what a boon slavery would be to their economies. Red state moral values my ass.
"We're not racist, we're not prejudiced. That's just the way it is." Right. The way it is, is that anyone who has a segregated prom is racist. Sadly Georgia still has plenty.
Sorry to spit in your soup, as we say. But the american mantra of hatred for taxes and lawyers seems to be so widespread that you can sell more or less anything under its wings. We are starting to get that, here. Taxes, only. But the "Right" is also trying to make everybody believe that taxes are an invention with one sole purpose: To steal from the masses. In many cases, they are an exact opposite... Why does nobody at least try to explain to your fellow citizens that with a rational government, taxes can make sense and better everybody's life? Just by spitting abuse on the principle of state regulations and - yes - services, that is what you finally get: Someone yells "Taxes" and the reflex works on it's own... Of course, the main problem here is hardcore racism. But I just hate this unreflected Taxes=Satan thing - more so if it is repeated by otherwise acceptable folk...
those Americans who feel that way should all breathe and drink water with no EPA, work with no OSHA or labor laws, eat with no USDA, get sick with no FDA or CDC, fly with no FAA, save and invest with no FTC, SEC, or FDIC, etcetera. It's too bad these brainless wonders can't actually experience the wonders of life with no government regulation or oversight before they vote to inflict the nightmare on the rest of us.
They're government agencies, mostly doing pretty vital stuff folks don't think about, like the Environmental Protection Agency testing air, water, and soil, the US Department of Agriculture testing prepared food, Food and Drug Administration testing medicines and food ingredients, etc.
I bet they like getting their government checks delivered by federal post, eating meat that's not rotten, hell eating anything as it's mostly subsidized, going to parks, driving on highways, not losing all their money when their S&L goes tits up, not having thalidomide babies, and so on. If they really oppose those things, they can save us a lot trouble then by poisoning their own water now. Let them eat mad cow!
Just like he does when they picks dem snakes up. Theys his chosen folk after all.
The tax-haters are absolutely convinced that there really isn't pollution (and heavens forbid you mention global warming), that mad cow disease is a scam to keep the price of beef elevated and that their state doesn't get back a dime of the highway taxes paid to the feds.
They already bitch and moan when the feds put 'matching-fund' restrictions on federal moneys. Of course, then they also go "poor children? we ain't got no poor children, just lazy welfare queens" and forego the federal money as well.
I'm using it in a looser sense: when, for example, West Virginia gets $1.74 of federal money for every $1 they pay in federal taxes(2002 data), and New Jersey gets $.62, there's folks voting red while waiting for gummint checks coming out of the pockets of the very libruls they despise.
So you can get email notification when someone replies to your comments, perhaps? That way you know to look at replies even if you forgot you posted a few months ago in someone else's LJ. Plus, some people prevent anonymous posts in their LJs.
Ah, well. It's too late to reserve your nick, anyway. Someone cooler already got it. ;-P
Alabama's getting so bad that soon they won't even be able to make fun of Mississippi, let alone find it on a map of Alabama & Mississippi.
And?
Date: 2004-11-30 11:24 am (UTC)What's a "long time ago"?
Date: 2004-11-30 11:44 am (UTC)What really sucks is that, despite the 31-year "tradition" being broken by Gerica McCrary, they are going back to racism. Fucking buttwipes.
Holy shit
Date: 2004-11-30 12:05 pm (UTC)The school in the link wouldn't be a loss, either

Date: 2004-11-30 03:03 pm (UTC)My high school had two Homecoming Queens--black and white. Ironically if you were hispanic or asian, you competed in the white category.
The argumentation here - same old.

Tax haters are morons

Thanks!

Date: 2004-11-30 02:52 pm (UTC)Isn't it time for the poles to switch?
Date: 2004-11-30 03:50 pm (UTC)Well, that's not the sort of welfare I meant
Date: 2004-11-30 04:53 pm (UTC)As long as it's just asking and not doing.
Date: 2004-11-30 02:54 pm (UTC)Yeah, I saw this
Date: 2004-12-01 10:26 am (UTC)Absolutely disgusting, but not at all surprising. In one week I saw more racism in Alabama than I saw in a year in Canada.
Well...

Re: Well...
Date: 2004-12-01 07:18 pm (UTC)Absolutely, I'm about as uncool as possible, actually. If I was any less cool I'd have a fusion reaction and become a small, rotund, sun.
Did I ever tell you about the relatives making n***er jokes at the dinner before my wedding? Pure class.
Your relatives?
Date: 2004-12-01 07:23 pm (UTC)Cool is just a state of mind. Of course, you poor sots only have provinces and territories, so I guess you're fucked. ;-)
