Ding dong, the bitch is gone!
Mar. 2nd, 2012 09:50 pmHas it really been 4 years since my last post? Damn.
Anyway, a little birdie told me that DeserterAt66 had just gotten the shitcanning he has so richly deserved for the last 8 years, so I thought I'd comment. I'll try to keep it succinct. :-)
So, tough call for Illiad. From my brief perusal, I gather that he is still under some personal stresses, and I hope that all improves. He's a nice guy for a centrist-leaning conservative, and I wish him well.
That said, if you are Illiad I suggest you stop reading at this point. I am about to get honest up in this motherfucker.
Illiad got one thing right: it's his fault. It has always been his fault, since it's his site. This does not at all mean it is only his fault. It is everyone else's fault, too. But you are guests where he has absolute control, and if he really doesn't like something he could stop it. So not stopping the badness is his fault. And to a lesser extent the direction of the badness is his fault, because his bias means he stops more of the bad stuff he disagrees with than the bad stuff he doesn't.
He is supposed to be a computer geek, and you'd expect someone like that to be a little more concerned about logic, if not fairness or balance. But the rules on his site are illogical, and they sometimes even contradict each other. If they were a program it would not compile.
1) Do not offend.
Except that actually following that rule will dilute ANY topic (covering politics, religion, any kind of personal preference, and sometimes even greetings) to the point of being tasteless, and not in the good way. Try a modifier, for fuck's sake.
2) Do not be easily offended.
See, you modified that one, was that so hard? Except Illiad is one of the more easily offended people there, or at least he does some Oscar-level acting as though he is.
3) The FYOSR
This one is a tacit admission that the second rule was never meant to be taken seriously, in spirit or in letter, as it is declaring a whole bunch of things as "offensive" just because of one localized cultural bias against them. Talk about blinders.
4) Freedom of speech
Just kidding. That has ever been a diminishing thing there, and it's hard to say how free it still is. Maybe if you have nothing interesting to say, it's totally free to you.
When I joined UF, it had just settled down into a place with a bit of regular form, but very little law. It was the Wild West days, and people had fun. Even Illiad. More people started showing up, and eventually Illiad and crew decided that Things Must Change.
They brought in big bad sherrifs to town, and they shot first and asked questions of the survivors. Mostly just where to bury the bodies. Free spirits started fleeing or adapting or getting the boot. In many cases that may have been a good thing, and in other cases it was a loss. Such is life.
Then after much abuse by the moderator and much more abuse by the guests, Illiad's crew decided Things Must Change, Again. And the rules got more strict, and they got more stupid. Chiefly, we were told we could insult an argument, but not the person who made the argument.
Yeah, think about that. For example:
"Hey Illiad, that rule you made up was idiotic as hell. Now, I am not saying YOU were an idiot, but your rule was."
Tell me he shouldn't feel directly insulted, and I'll tell future President Romney that you will be a great spokesliar.
Thankfully I was gone before they brought in the ultimate in condescending bullshit: the Fluffy Pink Bunnies.
Holy shit.
And based on the way Illiad described their eventual demise, he actually seemed surprised it failed.
Honestly, I am wondering if he is okay. He seemed pretty sharp when I joined, but it's like he has gotten more and more enfeebled in certain specific ways. He seems to think he can slowly wave the carrot of free speech in front of all the hungry asses and none of them will bite it. And he keeps thinking this after each and every carrot is eaten whole.
While that is all well and good, it was not really enough to make me bother dusting off this blog.
What really prompted me to speak was one little sentence in his Bye Bye DrShitstain66 speech. Really, that's it. Otherwise, I would have just said "Oh, more silliness" and moved on.
But he had to dishonestly drag me into it, and he had to do it right in the first sentence, too. Dammit.
Now, there is one way to really get my interest piqued, and that is to lie about me in a bad way. And make no mistake about this: Illiad is lying.
I was banned not because of what I did, but because DrAssMuncher66 lied about being offended and Illiad chose that as a convenient (if incredibly obvious) excuse to get rid of a thorn in his side.
It is still right there in the comments, unless they have deleted it out of shame and a hope that the past will remain buried if nobody can prove it happened. DrLiesALot66 made a horrible analogy (typical for conservatives), I pointed out how absurd it was with a spot-on analogy, and he pretended it was meant in some ridiculous manner that you have to use special Chinese mental gymnastics to understand (yet another typical conservative ploy; see the "lipstick on a pig" manufactured outrage against Obama for a shining example).
Illiad pretended that I had done what DogMolester66 said, even though he never gave me a chance to defend myself until the decision was made. Judge, Execution, and wasn't there supposed to be a trial in there? Not in Illiad's Kangaroo Court.
The thing is, Illiad is too smart to have actually bought that bullshit. So why would he have done it?
Two things come to mind, and I can only speculate that they might be valid. I only know that Illiad is unlikely to tell the truth about his motivation, so speculation is all I have.
First, he is a center-leaning conservative, despite patting himself on the back for being all rational and better than the extremists. As if being "centrist" is somehow superior. So in that light, perhaps he took my constant critiques of the right wing idiots personally.
But I like to think Illiad is a bit better than that. Smarter, more scrupulous, or at least honest with himself. The other thing is, he's a business man. UF is his business (or one of them), and I was making the right wing of UF very, very unhappy.
And many on that wing paid money, because to them paying money means they get special service and are better human beings and deserve what should be taken from the others in order to give to them. "Entitled" is far too mild to describe their dysfunction. But they pay money. Or maybe just having more bodies causes Illiad to get money from ads, who knows?
The point is, I pissed off a large segment of UF. I did so knowingly, proudly, and without remorse. I would do so again if allowed back, because I didn't try to piss off conservatives, I pissed off idiots. That conservatives were a majority of those idiots should not surprise anyone. That Illiad would pander to them, however, surprised a lot of people.
Some were so dismayed that they left UF. While a tiny bit of that may have been a sense of loyalty to me, mostly it was the sense of betrayal from Illiad that drove them away. They finally had clear proof he was not going to uphold the very (conflicted) rules he posted in a fair or balanced manner, and they either felt their own time was coming or they just couldn't stomach the hypocrisy.
DrEatsShitAndGrins66 was merely the tool he used to rid himself of this problem.
And that was probably Illiad's stupidest moment at UF. He could have banned me at another time by simply announcing it, without regard to an obviously cocked up excuse. There is no doubt I insulted people, because I am not insane and I know that insulting someone's idea is the same thing as insulting them. An honest pretext for kicking me out would have ruffled far fewer feathers than shooting me in the back for being accused of theft by the guy with the stolen TV in his hands.
So congratulations Illiad for finally taking out the trash, albeit far too late. Too bad you threw away your integrity long before.
[And a special "Fuck you" to SouthPawPL for the support of the real troll and the slander of me. You knew better, and now you've changed.]
...
Yeah, so it turns out the word "succinct" was on one of the pages of my dictionary that is missing. Did I nail it?

For the same reasons I banned Naruki.
