Settling in...

naruki_oniI'm at my dad's place. Every single plan we'd made relative to the move got altered due to circumstances.
The quality stuff we tried to sell on eBay didn't sell, despite being incredible bargains. The junk stuff we threw up as a "hell, let's just see what happens" sold. At least we'll get some money. I got rid of all my comic books cause there's no place to keep them, but a quick research shows that - despite the huge push to create collectible comics (that actually drove me away from buying them) over the last couple decades - nobody pays diddly for cool comics. I even had some first issues (though not necessarily _the_ first - they make more than one sometimes) of stuff like X-Factor, The Tick, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fish Police, Supergirl (after the Crisis on Infinite Earths thing where she was killed off), Booster Gold, and Hex. Plus a bunch of other things. *sigh*
The boxes we intended to ship to Japan the day of the move got delayed because we ran out of time till today. So today we completely changed our minds and decided to ship them via a Japanese moving company. It's a bit more expensive, but we can ship them more easily directly to our new place and they'll arrive much sooner.
The crappy ass U-Haul truck almost got me killed on more than one occasion, and it did it's damndest to smack the hell out of my head every time I got in or out of it (okay, so maybe that was my fault, but my head hurts so fuck off). Every time I hit a big bump the left side view mirror tilted to show only the side of the truck. The right side view mirror was taped into position to show nothing useful. Changing lanes at night on the interstate was really... exciting. We left the trailer light on all night and it drained the battery. AAA came and jumped it off, we let it run for 20 minutes and it started again just fine. I unloaded it completely and it wouldn't start any more. So this time I called U-Haul and they came out to jump it off, and we returned it before it died again. And I banged my head again. Sore all over my body, now.
The computer that I restored last night (with factory image) is set up and working fine. I have to reinstall Office and then the Japanese IME. And then I'll see if I can play a game when I get a chance. (I also gave all of my games to the eBay guy - wish me luck.)
The bulk of our stuff (all that nice furniture and stuff) went to charity. The guy we finally got to help us out was a bit odd. I think he was born in Africa, grew up in Belgium and the US, and was somehow cursed to come to Rhode Island. Whoops! I mean go to Rhode Island. I'm not there anymore, thank goodness. Anyway, he was anything but a professional mover. Heh. On one level it was fun, but I bit some nails there, too.
Anyhow, I'm going to skip a lot of the details and jump to one point: we have a lot of music CDs that we can't take to Japan for space reasons, but I want to keep the music. I have a DVD burner (a bit flakey, so I may not have the best software choices - but I can copy files to it). What's the best way to get about 100 CDs onto a few discs? TIA
And now, to see the next episode of American Loser. Er, Idol. He he he.

Someday, I'd love to live there, I loved it when I was there, even though it was only two weeks, and I pretty much stayed within Tokyo and Chiba prefectures(though I did make an expidition down to Kobe).

I can't offer any help with the music. I've never successfully ripped a commercial cd.
It's too bad you can't take the discs themselves. Maybe they could be shipped later?

Okay, can I stick the DVD into a vanilla DVD player and have it play music? Hmm, I'm starting to think I'm a total noob again. That would depend on whether I stuck it into a computer or a movie player, I think.
Ah, well. So, what's the best software to rip the CDs, and which of the two formats is "best"? I bet that would start a flame war on UF. Heh.
I'm a very lazy listener...

Vanilla DVD players should be able to play music.

Date: 2005-02-02 07:46 am (UTC)Sorry things are going so badly. I have all my music scanned into iTunes on my PC. Then you can listen to it on the PC and iPod, and it burns to CD. It uses .acc and .mP4. But that's about all I know about it. It's free from apple.com, though.
